1. Who controls your data
Vaqnt Technologies Limited is the data controller for personal data processed through the Vaqnt website and app. We handle it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Our Data Protection Officer can be reached at privacy@vaqnt.com.
2. What we collect
Identity: name, date of birth, BVN, NIN, photo and selfie. Contact: phone, email, address. Financial: bank account details, payslips, bank statements, employer and salary, repayment history. Property: addresses, ownership documents, photos and inspection reports. Usage: device, app activity and location when you allow it.
3. Why we use it
To verify who you are; to check whether a rent plan is affordable; to prevent fraud and money laundering; to pay landlords and collect repayments; to run the rent vault and rent pool; to support you; and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Our legal basis
We process your data to perform our contract with you, to comply with the law (for example, know-your-customer rules), for our legitimate interests in running a safe service, and with your consent where we ask for it — such as marketing or salary deductions through your employer. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. Who we share it with
Identity verification and credit bureaus; our partner bank and payment processors; your landlord or tenant, only what they need for the tenancy; your employer, only if you choose to pay from salary; professional advisers; and regulators or law enforcement where the law requires. We never sell your data.
6. How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account, and afterwards for as long as the law requires us to keep financial and identity records. Then we delete or anonymise it.
7. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to or restrict how we use it, take a copy of it, and withdraw consent. Ask in the app or at privacy@vaqnt.com and we’ll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
8. Security
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, limit staff access, and require two-person approval and hardware keys for sensitive operations.
9. Changes
We’ll update this policy when our practices change and tell you about significant changes in the app.
